I was wondering if anyone has ever tried fishing any marinas or harbors in the bay area like berkeley, or pt. richmond from a float tube, and what sort of luck they had.

never tried it, but there's stripers in emeryville in the summer, the very odd butt, dunno if you can do it though, i don't see why not. i posted something a long time ago about tubing the bay, check the archives, dunno if its here or the the float tubing forum. personally i think chrissy field would be a good idea in late spring/summer for butts. but i would be affraid of getting caught in the out going tide and ending up at the islands...

What I would suggest is that you contact one of the SF Bay kayaking clubs, or go to one of the kayaking rental places (I think there's one in Berkeley marina, and one in Tiburon). Show them a map of the bay and ask them what areas you need to watch out for. They have years of experience on the bay and will be able to point out the more dangerous areas as well as how to read the water conditions.
