there is a guy by the name of jim banes holding up two spotties. one was 3 pounds and the other 6. i think i read yesterday in pacific coast sportfishing magazine that the record for spotties was 4 pounds 13 ounces... now that would make this a record fish! anybody know anything??? kinda confused here.

Those guys sent in those pics a long time ago. Definitely some giant spotted bay bass. The all tackle world record is 4lbs 15oz. I'd suspect there have been quite a few fish bigger than this caught but not submitted to the IGFA. This could definitely be one of them. The bigger one in the pic looks like it could easily be 6lbs.

Would there be any benefit to the angler submitting such a fish?...Just wondering because i'm pretty sure i've caught a couple fish that would qualify but never bothered because I didn't want to kill the fish...The fact that i'm not sponsored or own my own tackle shop also steered me away from it....Just wondering how that works because I was told it was a pain in the ass and you get hassled a lot about it.........Warren

I know that the main benefit is you can get sponsors to supply you with tackle if you promote that you caught the fish using their equipment... Allowing them to promote their product as the one that was used to catch the world record "class of fish"... That may be something worth looking into... Maybe not...
