After last Sundays flattie mania, I just had to go back for another round. Launched the float tube at about 5:00 P.M. and found much different conditions then we had on Sunday. Very low tide and tons of kelp. There was almost no fishable water. I finally found a small clear spot right up by shore. 5 casts later I hit a fiesty 22 incher. After a successful release, on the very next cast, I get slammed and a very nice 27 incher comes up. The same spot produces another 18 incher and several short bites for me. I moved down the beach tpo another very small clear spot and it produces another 23 incher. I end up with 4 fish, 3 legals.

The best part of the day was that I took my dad out there for only his third float tube trip. He had not scored a fish on his previous 2 trips and was getting a bit frustrated. Especially after hearing the results of my recent trips. However, even though the conditions were tough he managed to score a 20 inch butt on the crank bait out of the same hole that I scored 3 out of. It wasn't big, it didn't make drag smoking runs, but it was still a great fish for him. He has certainly been there when I had many firsts in my life, and it was great for me to help him get his first float tube flattie. I'm sure there will be many more to come.

Best days of fishing in my life were with Pop. Dad passed away 10 years ago but the memories live forever! Take your Dad fishing while you still have the opportunity is my battle cry!

I have a sacred spot on the Oceanside Pier where I caught my first fish... a Barred Perch...big one! back in 1961 on a razor clam that at age 7 I baited myself and was so proud because Dad showed me how to rig it!

Seems like yesterday.
