#6911, "New Brighton 9# Striper"

That's what I got today. Igot it on a 3/8oz head and 5" FT purple backed smoke bellied swimbait with Procure Anchovie Butter. I got the only Striper that I know of caught there today, but I did see a few Halibut caught. I was actually there for the Halibut and managed to get 2 bites from them with teeth marks to confirm.
The birds weren't thick but there was a pretty good number. When I caught the Striper I had noticed that 3 Pelicans and a Tern had come down in a rough line about 15' apart and aiming in my general direction. I put my lure where I figured the next one in line would've come down and 3 turns of the handle later I had one on. Ain't it nice when someone practically put's up a "FISH HERE" sign. It was almost too easy, but it gave a fair acount of itself on my Largemouth weight baitcasting rod with 15# line. Nico, you should of called me, what happened?

that's a pretty decent fish. Were you surfcasting or tubing?

I was tubing, but he hit between me and the beach, kind of diagonally towards the beach and I was within the outside casting range if someone could rely cast. There was a guy throwing a homemade Pencil Popper like the ones I make and getting 30-50' past me, if I got anywhere near him. The fish didn't give me a slayride in the tube but he did a good job of turning me in whatever direction he wanted to go, first upswell, then downswell, then towards the beach, and I stopped him as he was heading out to sea.

Hey Wade. Nice job on the striper. I left a message for you last Thursday or Friday. Sunday morning I hadn't heard back from you and my friends at Pacifica said the wind was screaming and the waves were huge. So I decided to cancel and go to Coyote in the afternoon. Sounds like I made a mistake. Call me, I still want to get out there with you.

A. I don't have your phone #.
B. I guess you didn't get my Reply Email.
C. which contained my phone # (which is 4087787410).
D. Heck ya, I want to hit the water with you, either New Brighton or Pacifica, or anyplace else you think might be good.

As far as whether you would've been better off with me, I don't know. The fishing was tough. I got lucky because I was really paying attention to what the birds were doing anytime more than 2 came down in my general area. The fish didn't seem to be agressively feeding as I never saw any bait really come out of the water. Also, I went down to the beach the night before (yes, I slept in the car), and there were Grunion(sp?) spawning everywhere at about 11:30(no watch, when was high tide?). So I think that the big fish had a wild night gorging on Grunion. If you got more than 1 bass at Coyote you might have been better off there.
Also, some guy C&Red a 19" WSB. I almost forgot about him. It was nice to see that there were some still around.
