#10940, "Santa Barbara Harbor 6-11am"

****tie morning of fishing. No Live Bait and 2 holes in the tube is how I started my day. Ended up with 7 shorts and 2 Skates. My buddy Chris had only 1 hook up today and ended up being the only legal caught. My other buddy Brian that came up from down South did nothing. His dad had 2 shorts and his friend Mike had nada. Tough fishing today but I think things would have gone a whole lot better if we had live bait. I guess they only had enough for the charter boats today. Will be back out tomorrow morning and I think I seen the bait boat come in so lets hope the fish are still holding in the Harbor. Take it easy fellas.

Don,

I wish I could've made it out. Did you guys use lures or dead bait?

Pete

Donblaze, when your using that stinger, can you set the hook right away? I mean, within 4 seconds on the initial run? Or, do you count till 30 or so? Im thinking the Halibut will feel the treble hook and spit it out, so it might be better to set the hook immediately.

I'll kind of answer for Don since he is in Riverside. We were using dead frozen anchovies. As far as the stinger goes I like to let the fish run one time at least, click over drag, put pressure until he starts to run, and then set the hook. About half come on the trailer(the smaller fish) and the other half on the single.

No prob brotha. I'm just sorry things werent more productive for you guys. Its funny though, the next morning not only did they have live bait, EVERY person fishing (2 tubers, 2 kayakers, and a dude on a raft) had a legal!! I had 8 fish total that day with 2 legals. 22" and 24". Chris had a nice 27" and one of the dudes on the tube had a sweet 30". So please dont lose hope on Santa Barbara bro!! Get back up here soon and let me know when your gonna be chartering the Tak again. Take it easy.

That's part of fish'n, you win some, and you lose some.

Sometimes NOT getting bit is a good thing--you can learn from it. I am thinking maybe the "tag" end for the stinger was a little long or something. I was on 10# and I wasn't even getting bit--it's not like I was missing strikes. Maybe I was just snakebit...it happens.

Email me about the Island Tak...
