Fished on the Pacific Voyager 29th/30th south of the border. We were excited because the boat pulled 25 yellowtail the day before and saw big schools on the meter. They had found some unusually warm water. We returned to the same spot but unfortunately were unlucky. The water temp had in the same area had decreased dramatically. We metered some big schools of yellows but as soon as they went under our boat they would sound. Chumming and yo-yoing the jigs didn't interest them. Couldn't get one to bite. Even had live squid.

Did some bottom fishing lazy stye with my friend's TLD 30 2speed on a 700XH. Got a pretty nice ling and a bag of mixed rockfish. Then, we saw a school of big bonita that were breaking and were 10-12 lbs. Brian, you will be happy to know that the deckhands and the skipper were crazy about the Ulua you tied for me. The skipper started tossing surface iron with it and managed a nice bonita. Couple other people picked up some on sardines. Someone started trolling a bonita jig later on and picked up another one on the troll.

Highlight of the trip was the best way to scare off the seals, the skipper shooting at them from the sun deck with an air rifle. Boat was fast, clean, good crew, great food etc. Not a hot bite but still a fun trip.

Happy New Year. . .

Glad to hear the Ulua killed something finally. Sounds like an alright trip even if the yellows didn't cooperate.

Great to hear about the bigger bones, that's great news. I hope they make it back.

Bobby caught a nice one, at least 10 lb.s, you would've been proud of him - he didn't even bring the Ugly Stick on this trip :)

Glad you got a few fish at least. Yeah, I think even a live squid at the end of the line would probably put a deep bend in that Ugly Stik!
