I casted swimbaits for about 3 hours this afternoon 8/18 for absolutely nada. Not even one hit. :( On a bright note I have 5 vacation days coming up this week. I'm going to hit the surf with mussel and sandcrabs on the incoming evening tides.

I've put together a real sweet surf combo. I'm going with my new Shimano Stradic 4000 Spinner and my 7'6" Shimano V Rod loaded with 6# P-Line.

If I do any good, I will post the results. More than likely I will fish the beaches north of Carlsbad and south of the Oceanside Pier.

Tight lines and born to swing!

Rather than start a new thread, I decided to continue here.

Wow, what a day today! I had planned on a trip down to the surf before high tide but partied too much last night and slept past the incoming tide. So, I headed down to the harbor with some mussel and a few prayers around noon.

Water was a little off color...nice shade of green and pretty good water movement after slack. A little after noon I got hammered by 6 huge Opeleye I mean in the 4 to 5 pound range didn't have a scale but they were in the 16-18" range and fat!! All released. On top of that ... caught 7 Garibaldi that were nearly as big and fat as the Blue Eyes! And of coarse thay were all gently put back in the water. Fortunatly they were all hooked on the outer lip area so no surgury was required. Whew!

To complete the day I caught 7 small Sargo 3 Sand Bass, and 1 Spottie bay. While I was there, I got my mussel for the surf in the morning. High Tide between 10 annd 11. Gotta hit the rack.

Tight Lines!

I noticed your name and the AZ interested me. Are you now or have you ever lived in Arizona>? I am a serious fisherman, miss salt water and i am stuck here in Scottsdale.

Let me know. Your reply is appreciated.

Acually, my moniker pertains to the Aztec Indians of Mexico. The official mascot of San Diego State University.
