#9930, "Night Fishing on Goleta Pier 6/7/03"

Decided to do the once a month night fishing trip out on Goleta pier with my buddy Tony. We decided to use the chunk squid and cast out as close as we could to the kelp to try and nab a variety of sharks and rays. We fished for about 2 hours and caught 1 leopard shark, 1 swell shark, 2 shovelnose (one was at least 4 feet and broke 16lb test on the surface), 1 thornback ray, and a big fat croaker. I forgot how much fun it is to go out there and spend a few hours shooting the #### while catching a few good fighting sharks. Nothing was to big, but pound for pound these sharks fight just as hard as anything. At least it feels that way when you catch them on trout/bass combo rods from Big-5 (we are poor college students).

Thats pretty cool, sounds like fun. I haven't fished Goleta pier since I was in high school. A couple friends and I would go at night and try to catch sharks, but I never managed to catch any. Saw lots of rays caught. Sounds like fun on the lighter gear you were using.
