After I learned that the Hali was biting from 72nd Jetty in Long Beach from other board. My bro-in-law Leon & I went down to tried for the first time. After we maked bait at the river near by. When we were there I met the couple from the other board & They leaded us to the fishing spot ( Thanks to them, very nice couple ). When we got there the regular already caught a almost legal , lots of short. One guy caught a legal inside the channel . One of the regular gave us 4 tiny live bait when he left ( all of my bait are dead & i don't have that many either )and I got one short right away, the next bait in the water got pick up and I can fell that's a legal one , it was 23" so i kept it. We ran out of bait & bought some more from the shop on the other side of the channel, fished the out going tide in the channel side for 3 shorts between two of us & I got one big hit but came unbutton after 10 second fight. My first time fishing for halibut but love it :-) Khanh.

"Just curious, what side were you fishing? The open ocean side or the side the boats go in and out?" Kman. I caught the legal on the open ocean side but one guy caught another legal (23.5")in the channel side ( the side boats go in & out). We fished the out going tide on that side, got one big hit & 3 shorts. I may try to go there again this weekend. Thanks Josh. I read your Santa Cruz report & that is a BIG ling you got there & a nice mix of bass. I always love to read your report & pictures . My shoulder is getting better now and can pull on some fish, hopefully it will completely heal by the tuna season ;-) . Khanh.
