Has anyone been out to Naples reef lately? I am thinking of going out on a kayak this weekend and looking for some pointers. What kind of rig and setup should I take and what type of fish should I target?
Naples is mostly a calico bass spot. Sometimes the big barracuda show up there as well. The areas around naples are good for halibut etc. I'd bring some olive 5" swimbaits for the bass and some tady 45's for the cuda. Try the end of elwood pier too if you're around there. Good calico and sometimes sandbass. The good stuff is about 100 yds off the end of the pier. When you're fishing the naples kelp itself stay towards the east end of the reef. Less kelp often times but more rock which holds the bass better.
Naples has been off and on lately. If you hit it the right day, it goes ballistic, but if you hit it the wrong day, it's dead. Give it a shot and let us know how ya do. There's been bass on just about every stringer up the coast between the harbor and naples. Don't forget to pack some of those Blams!!! -Brian
