A gorgeous, sunny offshore morning in Laguna. Surf was near nil and the bite was slow but yet awesome as I C-and-R'd 2 calicos, one a two pounder and the other (which made the outing super), a 23 inch, 5 1/2 pounder. I cast over a boiler with about two feet of water on it and not even into two cranks when this toad sucked in my 5 inch big hammer. It had me pinned hard as I pulled and kicked to keep it out of the rocks. Both fish were very chunky and dark bronze/brown from living in the rag kelp. I started at just before 7 and was out by 9. I didn't get bit after the big one which was about 735 (sun came over cliffs and maybe was too light now). Both bassies released.

unfortunately, I was solo tubing, so no one to take pix. maybe I need to build an arm to hold my camera with self-timer at correct distance for a self portrait, lol.
