#12805, "DFG at Newport Pier 9/28"

After tubing in NP bay with little action (1 sandy), I went to NP to fish for some mackeral for bait to use for some kitties. Got there at 10:45 am. I was a littl late as the macks were already gone. But the bones stayed around. At around 11:20, F&G came out looking at every bucket. Most people who caught the limit had already taken them to their cars. He did get this guy who still had a bucket full of them (bones). Although he was way over limit, he got lucky with just a warning. I guess the guy didn't have any ID on him, so in order to do something the warden had to arrest him. All the bones were taken away except for his limit. Got back to my truck to find out he had parked next to me. Spoke with him for a little bit and took two bonies from him to use as kitty bait. Glad to see F&G out patrolling the piers. :D :D :D

Too many people seem to be catching and keeping way over the limit of those small bonito.

People overfishing them is probably what hurt the fishery in the first place .i remember busting them in san diego when i was in my teens(im 34 now) ,then it was like they dissapeared for years until this year. they are back in force, small but still bonies.hope they stick around for yeasrs to come so i can take my son out for memories like i had.

It's amazing to me that people are so greedy and so stupid! The bonito are trying to rebound from severe over fishing in the 60's, 70's & 80's. This year, it finally appears that the bonito are re-establishing themselves, and we have a bunch of idiots keeping every fish that they catch. All the little bonito that people keep means there is one less big bonito that they may have the opportunity of catching someday in the future. If people are too stupid to realize that fact on their own, then maybe a citation and having their equipment confiscated will help them get the message!!!!!!

Also these pier rats are always there doing the same old things. Everytime I'm out there, they're already there. What are they doing with all the fish that they catch??? They usually keep everything that are brought up, no matter how big or small. One can only eat so much before getting tire of it. I think they are probably selling their catch to be out that much.

The key word in the entire post - WARNING.

They gave him a warning! What a bunch of ****! These people have been "warned" enough. If they truly want to see a change in these people's selfish behavoir they need to stop warning and start arresting. No more "I don't speak English" excluses, no more "I don't have ID" excuses.

I can't even take a walk on the Goleta Pier without having my blood pressure rise. The violations of regs is rampant - not to mention the littering! Slap a few of these inconsiderate pieces of **** with a $1000 littering fine and watch the piers clean up!

Creating laws that you don't intend to enforce is one of the main problems with the F&G.

I wonder how much money WE spent having that warden go out to the pier, find people breaking the law, and do absolutely NOTHING about it.

Okay, I'm done - time to relax.

I hear you there. 2 tickets on the peir and you can bet things would change quickly. Try that kind of BS out on the Salmon grounds and you'll get that ticket.
Tight lines,
Wade

It's sad that they view one type of fishery as more important than another.

I think he gave out two that day. I read on another board that they were giving out tickets and confiscating fishing equipments. I would think they would stop, but it doesn't. These people don't get a clue, they just have a watch person or something.

I sometimes wonder why we even have the d.f.g., walk any pier in cali and theres multiple violations going on,and never any fish and game officers.fish any lake in cali opening day and you'll see them same pier rats walking the lake, stringers full of dead fish.i realize theres alot of space in our great state but its pretty easy to figure were most of these offenses are taking place.

Not to sound too pessimistic but they're never around when you need them (dfg). I see so many short halibut leaving the piers it's outrageous! I saw a guy once take about 5-6 VERY short 'buts home. (bout 12 inches...) Quite wrong if you ask me.
