I was planning on going froggin in Mission Valley this evening, but I had to go to my Mom’s house and she lives right by Xanadu, so I went there instead. I saw on the way to Mom’s that it was empty of anglers. I love it when it’s empty. When I got to the pit an algae bloom was raging. 1’ of visibility. I thought about going to MV but I only had a couple hours, so I stayed.

I tied on a white Trix Spinbomb(3/4oz saltwater spinnerbait) and for the first hour I pounded the shore and bushes, I fished that junk TIGHT. The result was nil. I had an hour or so left, so I kicked over to my favorite area and started fan casting, working the depths with the big spinnerbait. Running that bad boy deep, as if looking for halibut. I felt some structure……stick…stick….whoa! that was a bite….stick…stick… FISH ON! I knew it was a nice bass, sucker was running drag off my kelpin stick, not an easy task for a fish. Fiiiiiiiiiiiiinally got her to my hand. A good solid 4lber. OH YEAH!! Looked around for a place to set up my digicam. While trying to get a self portrait, I ended up getting a bad leg cramp, so I let the fish go. This was the resulting shot. LOL.

I continued to fish that area with the Spinbomb and continued to get bites, unfortunately I wasn’t able to connect with most of them. Perhaps they were biting the blades in that super stained water? Who knows? I ended up getting 4 bass in a very short time. All of them were between 2 ¾ lbs and 4lbs except one that was about 14”. Grabbed my C.rig rod with a Pourboy Beaver on it and tossed it out to the school. 3rd cast got me this fish. 3-3 ½ lbs.

My first time ever using a Beaver in freshwater. Thanks Pourboy!

I decided to try something new, a stinger hook on my spinnerbait, a first for me. The question is, do I have one? I looked around in my box…..of course I do. What’s my name….Duh. Hooked up the stinger and casted out,…HOOK UP! Farmed a nice bass. Go figure. Casted a couple more times and this was the result. Another 3lb plus bass.

Well by now it’s late I had to go. I hated to leave because I knew I could catch lot’s more fish. Such is life.

OI!
