#3780, "April 21, Cachuma Lake SB Bass Club"

My BASS Fed tournament at Lopez was cancelled due to lack of sign ups, so I fished the team tournament with the bass club at cachuma. Day started out with Zack picking me up and cruising over to the ampm. There was one sandwich left, and it was great italian. Score. The day was off to a good start. Met 2 other clubs in line at cachuma and launched as one of the last boats out. Luckily nobody was at our spot. We fished the coves on the northern shoreline on the entrance to the narrows. I was throwing the Pointer 128 in american shad while Zack threw the 78 in ghost shad. I had one blow up on the ripbait as soon as it hit the water. Got a bad hookset on it and it came off. About a pound and a half, keeper size fish. We found a smallie guarding some fry so we stayed around this area for awhile. Zack was able to catch a 2lb class largemouth while I worked the smallie. The smallmouth would only attack the Storm swimbait (bluegill color) and nothing else. So, I was forced to catch it on the swimbait. I rigged a trailer hook on the tail and stuck it after a long while of working it. In this same area was a 3.5lber that kept chasing Zack's slammer. I threw the generic trout by it, but it wasn't too into it. We watched it some and realized it stayed in the same area. Not on a bed, just stayed in the same area. Zack caught it on dropshot while I ate my sandwich. Moved down that same cove and I got another one on dropshot. This brought us to about noon and we ran to Storke Flats briefly and Johnson, as well as Harvey's Cove, but ended up back at the first spot. I farmed a smallie on dropshot and missed a couple and zack farmed one on the senko, so we blew our 5th fish. The perfect end to a perfect day was when Zack's batteries (all three) were dead and we had to get towed to the marina by lake patrol. Luckily we made weigh in by about 5 minutes. Winners were Brian #2 and Dennis with 17.25 or something like that. 2nd place was Pat Corcoran and David Robb with 16.97 and me and Zack came in 5th out of 11 with 9.72. We were happy with the result and we earned out plaques which was cool. Dennis and Pat both fished primarily in the very back of the narrows as I understand it.
