With the promise of live squid and with Yanni catching four WSB Thursday, including one "the right size", once again I decided to go local instead of La Jolla. Yanni also was broken off by a mystery fish that was almost certainly another nicer legal WSB as well.

We were on the water from 7am till 3pm, and it was a beautiful day that seemed to just fly by like nothing.

I left my camera at home and there was no squid for private boaters or kayakers. So already slightly bummed we headed out, Yanni with deano's and me with lures.

Turned out to be a wonderful day on the water. I caught four nice Calicos, including the biggest I have seen in a long time. I could literally have easily reached my entire fist down its throat, and I have large hands. I'm thinking 6 pounds or so.

It was released untouched.

Besides some smaller Checkers we both caught Sand Bass and a few Halibut also. Yanni farmed a very nice one at the Yak, and I reeled up a live greenback mack I had on a dropper that was shredded with gigantic rake marks. Sigh.

I also caught Barracuda, all short, but some close enough to make it interesting, kind of.

The hot ticket today was working 30'-40' at the color-break and in the scum-lines, as well as dropping on marks for the sandies and Flatties, a little deeper, 50-60 feet.

Brown swim baits and green baits with red bellys were getting hit well, again by the sandys, and I caught a short halibut on one in 55'.

We did a little of just about everything and covered a lot of ground looking for the WSB, but never connected with any more today. I would say that the trolled cranks were the most productive again as well today.

The monster Calico was caught away from structure on the troll to a new spot. Go figure.

We may hit La Jolla tomorrow for the YT lottery.
