#14138, "Aug 18, 2006 - Farallon Islands"

My dad had a day off, and we both just read a gnarly book about great white sharks at the islands, so we are all juiced on them and decided to go.
Now through out this report, bare in mind I know absolutley nothing about saltwater fishing. I have gone like 8 times in my life or so. I went out of emeryville on the "Superfish" , which is awesome because it is the boat that was used in the book by all the shark biologists!
we started off catching sand dabbs for bait. lol!! it was frikin hilarious, pulling up 4 little flounder things at a time.
Next, we had to get a boat full of rock fish limits. That was accomplished in about an hour....me an dmy dad did it in like 0 minutes on big hammers and a diamond bar, then we caught and released about 30. they were hitting in like 15ft! mostly blue, black and olive rockfish i think.
Next we rigged up some bigger stuff and dropped down the dabbs. We were both using my okuma huddleston rods, cardiff 300's and 25lb biggame. My dad put the first ling in the boat. about 6-7lbs. I ahd a frikin big ass one on, i felt the tail strokes and even at like 100 feet I could see my line sweeping sideqways, then it sawed through my line

but I quickly got another chance. I thought i was hung up for a while cuz it wasnt budging. It slowly started comign up and after 170ft of reeling, it was in the net. My first ling cod ever, and it won me the big fish jackpot!! it weighed it when i got home and it was 15lbs. kinda cool.
I also caught a non-keeper ling
I caught a big ass red thing like 6lbs or so, but they said I had to let it go because of some little yellow spot above his eye?
anyways, it was really fun, everyone got limits and there were about 10 keeper lings or so.

If people concentrated on the important things in life there would be a shortage of fishing poles.
