Marco,
I believe the long beach and seaboy reels were designed for trolling. I know the newer ones have a 3.5:1 gear ratio, but I'm not sure about the old models. The 65 holds 350 yards of 30 lb. which is fine for fishing most species inshore and out at the islands. I've never fished with a long beach, but I have done some work on a couple. How do they cast? If they're made for trolling, probably not too great. It'll probably be best off on a livebait setup. It would be a great rockfish reel. There are many archived discussions about what rods to buy. Check the tackle board. Calstar, G Loomis, Seeker and old Sabres are all good choices.
