#7839, "RE: Awesome bassing--Dana Wharf 9/25" In response to In response to 3 Thu Sep-26-02 11:57 AM
No, Don--this was just the normal open party run. Our church charter is on the Western Pride this sat. evening (prior one was aug.17th).
The general attitude with the Dana regulars is C and R now. Even the crews are cool with it. I used to fish the Dana party boats a lot in '92-'94ish and the rule was take only partial limits and any big bass (3# and up) would be tanked for the JP and released later. I did a twilite run with Dana a month ago and that's when I found that the rule with most of the regulars is C and R ALL calicos and a policing of other folks that they aren't allowed to keep anything over 3#. Now, they won't just walk up to anybody and yank their fish away, they generally do it to their less-caring brethren. I thought it was cool. I did witness them politely suggesting to other folks that they should release the good-sized ones. There were a couple guys they knew who wanted to keep all fish and they regulated them pretty well.
Plastics did not come into play as the water was too clear and we were backed right up in the kelp--you couldn't cast and retrieve thru it.
