Brian #2 and I took the aluminum out to the pipe this morning. This is going to be more of a description of a disaster, than a fish report. #2 got a little calico early on but after that it was pretty dead. We moved out to deeper water and I caught a mack on a squid strip. I was like, what the hell, nothin else is biting, might as well have fun with some macks. So I cast and retrieve a squid strip, and to my disbelief catch a calico. It was the dumbest fish ever. No kelp around, not much bait, and squid strips don't swim. Ok, we noticed that they had re-directed the slough so that it's flowing again. We decided to go check it out and maybe see if we could get into the slough and catch some mullet. We motor over to the slough entrance and sit outside the breakers (or so we thought) for maybe 5 or 10 seconds before we decided it's not a good idea, then I turn around and see a giant wave about to break on the transom. CRAP!!! We catch the wave, accidentally, and I do my best to steer us with the outboard so that we don't get turned sideways. I got us into about 3 or 4 ft. of water until the wave turned us sideways and we took on water from the port side. The whole boat filled with water and eventually flipped over. The funniest thing was that as soon as that boat started to turn, we both looked at eachother, and then lunged for our rods. We didn't care about getting away from the boat, making sure the other guy was alright, we grabbed for our rods and once they were secure, grabbed for our tackle. We got the rods alright, but the tackle dumped overboard. Nobody was hurt and we actually got almost everything back besides a few plastics and my scale broke. It's one of those things where we'll look back on and laugh at (I'm laughing now, but my parents didn't think it was too funny...). Hear about Rob's gigantic bass? He stuck a 15lber. today up north (largemouth variety).
