The pops and I went down to San Diego thursday night to go albie fishing. Luck was with us and when we got to the BIG 3 we got a front row parking spot. This in itself is an accomplishment. We went out on the Prowler out of Fishersman Landing. The day before they only got 11 fish for 26 anglers so we were kind of worried. The boat is big , wide and clean. The crew was awesome and were always there. While trolling we spotted a jumping swordfish. The fish jumped about 20 times pretty close to the boat. What a sight! We also had a F-14 circle around us and we also spotted numerous blue whales. These sights alone made the day. Now on to the fishing part.We ended up going about 85 miles down the coast, but it was worth the long trip. The first stop of the day we boated 18 fish. This was about average with our biggest stop producing about 27 fish. For 32 angles we ended up with 97 albies, ranging from about 16 - 25 pounds with most average 20. We both caught limits (5). Most our fish came on 15lb test and a lively chovie. We both caught an albie on the slide on a big hammer. My dad on the pacific 'chovy color and mine on the tuna 'chovy color. These were our first platic fish ever. I weighed my slide fish right after and it weighed 25 pounds 9 ounces. It was big enough to win the JP. Overall it was a amazing day on the water and fishing was good too.
