Yeah those will work. I only fish plastic when I tube, but I've seen many guys using live bait and doing well. The live stuff will help out a lot now that it's winter. For plastics ( at this time of year) use small grubs, like 1"-3", try lots of different colors.

Do you have a float tube? Nothing better than tubing for spotties, a 3lb fish can take you for a spin. And, spotties don't stop fighting till they are back in the water without a line attached. When the water hits around 65 degrees this spring, those spotties will go off I bet. I didn't get into a groove until the end of summer (got my tube in mid-july), but I was doing any where from 12-20 bass for 4+ hrs of fishing. I know that that is low too for that place. This year was supposedly slow! I've heard an average day there is 40+ for the good anglers.
And San Diego makes Newport look slow, if you find the right spot. At least that's what I've heard. Let me know how you do, and if want to try tubing it if you haven't yet.
