Hi gang. I fished laguna for a couple hours between morning appointments. After my SCI trip last weekend, I was itching to do some more jig fishing. I left the big hammers and my swimbait rods at home and brought the jigstick instead. I figured doing so would force me to fish the iron and really focus on it. It took a while to get back into flinging the Tady 45 and dialing into the right crank speed. I got several bites but missed them (yes, I kept reeling like you're supposed to, lol). After a bit, I saw a gold flash come under the jig and I got bit but it didn't stick so I stopped cranking to let it fall and a second fish came up as I started to wind again--fish on! A nice 2.7# calico. This was my first bass on the iron from shore as I'd only used it from boats until now. I got many more missed bites (like 10-12) that I probably would have hooked if I had on a smaller jig or a swimbait. It sure is a lot more work than swimbaits. Water was just off-color with a thin overcast mixed with some sun. Surf's supposed to build soon, so be careful.
