Good luck, that side of the bay as you probably have figured out can have some major wind problems but they are usually semi-predictable. The currents haven't struck me as killer the few times I've been in that general area except on the one time I was their for a +6' tide swing. Of course I've only been out there in a 15' boat with a 50Hp so the kickboat might change my perspective. You know I've kicked in some harry water and this area would have me looking at every safety measure, just like when I hit the ocean. I'd go in the early AM and abort at the 1st sign of trouble.
On another note, you might try over near San Quentin as it's a fairly protected area near the prison.

Tight lines,
Wade
