#14349, "Inshore intel - June 13th."

Launched at around 6:30am and hung a right a Pt. Loma. The plan was to take the girls out to look for yellowtail or barracuda or something. Drove around a bit and spotted a pod of pilot whales. That was pretty much all we could find. Cruised up to the kelp forest and see what was cooking and it was ugly. Lifeless and full of red tide. Family wasn’t really digging the big water, and the dog already threw up so we came back inside. Pulled up to Zuniga jetty and made a cast with my flyrod.

My first fish on my own flyrod. Pretty exciting to finally feel a fish on the other end. They feel HUGE on a flyrod. Hung around the jetty for about 15-20 minutes and caught 2 more dink calicos.

99 and 44/100ths percent pure love.

Jammed over to the bait barges to check for cuda, didn’t find anything there so decided to go home early. I didn’t realy feel like bay drifting, I was trying to get my family to learn something else, but my wife convinced me to make one drift. She said she wanted a halibut for dinner. Since the wind and the tide were in favor in the top of the bay, I set us up. My wife gets this guy long lining on the first cast while I’m setting up the drop shot rod.

Then she picks out a lure that she believes is appropriate for halibut hunting. I buttered it up for her and she drops it to the bottom and starts shaking the line. Next thing I know she’s got a rad bendo going, then my youngest get’s something on the long line. A little bit of fancy manuvering and a touch of chaos,…… this was the result.

Done deal. Homeward bound. This was the fly and the drop shot lure.

Inshore report over.

The following fishing photos are bonus filler material. Hi-lights from some of my recent hiking trips. I’ve been hiking a lot lately, and this is the motivating factor.
You turn me on cause I’m the radio, and like a country station I’m a little corny… and who needs the light when it hurts your head…

Spinbomb fish. All these bass caught legally while hiking, far away from any other humans and yes, it’s a beautiful thing!
