My sister and I went for the 9-3 half-day today. Luke was driving the boat and we went up the line to the pipe first thing. Fishing there was slow, with just a few browns coming over the rail. I did get some deep gashes in my swimbait that looked suspiciously like halibut but that was all.
Water temps were 61, not super clear, but not bad either - perhaps 10 foot visibility. We went all the way up to Naples around 11am which was cool. Unfortunately the bass were not in the mood to bite - at all. One nice cabezon came over the rail, and a tiny little barracuda.
Sliding back down the line we did some rockfishing and brought in a fair number of browns. J and I caught about a half a dozen, with one nice big fat one. Last stop was a kelp up shallow off Ellwood. The kelps were laid down nicely and I caught a nice calico on the 5" #13 baitfish Big Hammer that took the jackpot. I released the fish.
So fishing was pretty slow, but the weather was beautiful and the crowd was mellow. It's hard to go out there and not have a good time on the Starudst :) Today was no exception.
