#2139, "San Clemente Yellows!!!!"

Brandon and I were invited on a charter with Alan Kato and his gang. We had nearly 30 scoops of Candy (Live Squid) and only 18 people on the boat Aztec! We started fishing just before grey light and finished around 9:30am. The first baits in the water after dropping the anchor were met by hungry Yellowtail. These weren't just yellowtail but they were YELLOWTAIL! All the fish were between 20 and 35 lbs except for one or two! I was probably the fourth or fifth bait in and had my first fish right away. I was fishing a Tady 45 light, white with a glow in the dark back and tipped with a whole live squid. I had just picked up this jig from my friend Mark at Art's Tackle in Gardena. Like usual, he was right! I caught 7 fish on this jig before it broke off on fish #8! We continued to hook fish but it slowed after around 8:00am or so. Nearly everyone else on the boat was fishing the leadhead and squid but I quickly dropped two fish on that rig. I broke out my second white jig which was a Tady A2 heavy, white with the glow in the dark back...also tipped with a whole squid. I quickly picked up #8, #9, and the magical #10! My first limit of Yellowtail and the amazing part was all the fish were so big! I probably had three or four that pushed the 30lb mark...all on the jig!

If anyone is going to Clemente, I say these Tady jigs rank up there with the 'ol American Express card...Don't leave home without it! You can ask anyone on that trip, these two jigs were red hot! It was fished against nearly all other white jigs and they were totally dominant! Give it a try...it's worth the money!

Anyway... Brandon had an awesome trip. Before this, he had only caught 3 Yellowtail. On this trip alone, he took home 4 "Size-Large" Yellows as well as a couple of bass that he caught on the plastic. I ended up with a limit of Yellows that I took home and a limit of Calicos of which I only kept 3 for grandma to eat! On the way home Brandon said it was his best trip ever...For me...one to remember! The boat ended up with 70 Yellowtail! We had a great time and the crew was great! Hat's off to the crew of the Aztec...you can bet I'll be back for more!
