That is good advice Another Brian about keeping on casting to an area where you catch a fish. I usually start out methodically working in and out and along the bank. When I find the halibut I stay in that general area and usually can catch several more. Often times casting in a particular direction, like up current and between grass beds, will work well. If they keep hitting when I'm casting in a particular direction, I keep on throwing that direction. It may be because the halibut are facing into the current or laying behind grass clumps. It's all about figuring out the "halibut pattern" sometimes. Good places to start at Goleta are in front of the big rock where the cliffs start or straight in front of the stairs from UCSB, but every year seems to have a new hotspot.
