Sorry for late posting...Fished bass with Larry Heron on his CC, the Calico Hunter II Saturday. Launched at Oxnard at 5 AM and ran south. Wind and a little lump already up. Water was cold, down 9-10 degrees from 2 weeks ago. Real ugly green and where it wasn't green, it was mild red tide. Fished kelp and hard bottom spots from Deep Hole down to Encinal with a slow pick on mixed bass on 4-5 inch Big Hammers for Larry and 3.5 and 5 inch Fish Traps for me. I must say though, I'll be fishing more Hammers in the future as I saw too much good done on them not to, details ahead...all fish came on the sink or slow drag right on the bottom. Best colors were greens, browns, red flake. Ended up with 15-16 legal mixed bass, largest a 2 1/2 lb. calico, all released. Now, the highlight of the trip: if you recall, Larry nailed a 37 lb. WSB last week. Well, deja vu...he's 10 ft. from the boat with his swimbait and a 34.5 lb. WSB comes up to eat it. Lands it on 15 lb. on his noodle rod. At the same place and time as the week prior..go figure. The wind and lump had come up and I'll tell you being from OC, the weather up here is nasty going north. We had the rain slickers on and I had a death grip on the console's grab bar. Gnarly! What a work out. That Hydro Sports CC is a solid boat. Larry is a great guy and I look forward to fishing with him agin soon. Good fishing all.
