#40, "Santa Claus Bch 8/28"

Mike Edwards and I targeted corbina while fishing the beach next to Santa Claus Lane last Saturday. My first time at this beach. From 7:30 to 10:45 a.m. there was steady perch action with most of 'em being palm-sized. Mike was doing good on the 2-inch curly tailed plastic grubs. There was a fair amount of loose kelp/eel grass making jig fishing tedious so I used sand crabs. We saw four corbina in the shallows so my hopes were up. By the time Mike had to leave at 10:45, I had 35 perch (released) and no corbina bites. At 10:55 I got my first corbina, a 16 incher. I looked over my shoulder hoping to call Mike back to the beach but he wasn't in sight. Next up was an 18 inch fish, then a 20 1/2 that went 3 3/4 pounds. At 12:17 I got my last one, a foot long dink. I lost one other. After getting skunked at Casitas the last few times, it felt great to get some pole-action on the corbina. Thanks Mike, for inviting me!
