#4565, "new baitcast reels"

got my order from basspro today. ordered a 7'6" trigger stick with the new shakespere supra xt 2000. i was kinda skeptical when i ordered the reel, but the tech guy said it would make an excellent in shore reel and heavy freshwater. i have to say that the reel is everything i expect as far as quality, and nothing i would expect for the price ($30). the reel holds 200 feet of 20lb. test, but i have it spooled with 16lb. triplefish. outside, the reel is almost identical to the garcia C3 series, but is just a bit wider. i took the reel completly apart and found that the guts are just as well made as my garcia C3. what it has over the garcia though is that it has a anodized aluminum spool and a bait clicker. nice feature if you baitfish alot. the gears are machined brass and have good tolerences. i wouldn't put this reel against a shimano calcutta as far as quality goes, but it seems to be just as well made as the garcia, and at half the price too. i fished it this evening at the aquaduct. it casts really well, even better than my garcia. probably because of the aluminum spool. the garcia's is plastic.
the only thing i found that i didn't like about the reel is the anti-reverse. although it is tight, it's not infinite anti-reverse, so there is a little backplay. also, the baitclick button shifted way too easily. i fixed that by bending the springmetal clicker just enough so that it has a more positive engagement.
