#5948, "Salmon Report for Sunday Cinco De Mayo"

I really didn’t intend on fishing today (Sunday) but after yesterdays results I couldn’t help myself! So I met my buddy Matt Russell at the Santa barbara launch ramp at 6:00am (launched up there because they had the better bait) Anyways we ran down to the same area as yesterday and set up just east of the rock island in about 105ft of water on the same little scratches we got bit on yesterday, and it started out a little slow then we started gettting cuda bit then we started getting the right kinda of bites but couldn’t make them stick! Finally Matt desides to try something different and sends down a plug cut sardine, and bam! Were on the board with a salmon in the high teens! About a half hour later I get my first fish on a medium dine,( remember to smack them on the deck before sending them down!) So after we drift uphill about a mile I decide to run us back down where we started and not 60 seconds after I put my first rod in the water Im on and with my second fish in the box Im done. Unfortunately after that the current died, so after a half hour or so of not going anywhere I drop my bow mount trolling motor in the water to kinda move things along and not more than five minutes after we start power mooching three rods get bit and Matt sticks our final fish and were done at 9:30! (the others came unbuttoned) So after passing our bait off to a buddy we head in ! I must say I have a new found respect for salmon now where as they don’t pull especially hard initially they get real squirly and sometimes acrobatic soon as they see the boat. For anybody that want’s to no how we were rigging just imagine a halibut sliding rig with a 4-6ft leader (12-15lb line) Also Im no expert here just using what my buddy Mike taught me last weekend, but I catch on fast! ;-)…..Larry

Real fish are measured in pounds - not inches!
