Hey Jerry, Glad someome had something to say about the elusive seabass. I love to hear about those types of bites. I was also lucky enough to see that type of action on croakers one time at Catalina.
My buddy and I had been searching our asses off for a day and a half. We must have run around the entire Island twice. We decided to drift the silver cnyn area for a butt for dinner when I noticed a batch of breaking cuda inside the kelp line up tight to the beach. We ran up to the spot to have a little fun with the 45's. As we got close I saw a 45# cuda come clean out of the water. With bars on it. The Seabass had pushed about a half ton of daylight squid up to the beach and were having they're way with it. The big calicos and some cuda were also mixed in with about every other kind of junk fish you could imagine. I'm not sure how many we caught, but the only thing that stopped us was the dark. The fished popped right at sunset (DARN) who's complaining? I never had to tie on a bait or get squid ink on my hands. Good Luck, and if you have some KA-KUI beads rub them for me. I have to take a friend to the stone tommorrow. He doesn't want to go to Castaic because he always gets blanked there. Did you see the last couple of trips I had?
