The Japan record, which is on the 25 biggest bass list at number 19, is 19.15 pounds (I am doing this from memory, so forgive me if I botch a number by a little bit).
That fish was caught at a lake about 3 hours from my shop, Lake Ikehara. Several of us tried to catch that fish in the "Bingo Arm" of the lake for about a week. I had the fish come look at my 12 inch Osprey, but never even came close to catching it. The interesting thing was that about ten of us were amazed that there were at least four fish BIGGER that the 19.15 (that fish had noticible scars on its side, and was easy for us to identify in the crystal clear water. One fish was was scary--it looked more like an ocean fish (grouper?) than a Type 2 hybrid LMBB. Many fish have been caught out of that lake over 15 pounds. One season there were over 200 fish over ten weighted in. I get a lot of nice fish there on big baits, but never anything to compare with the bed fisherman's results. It would be interesting to have one of the great bed fishermen from the USA (that means you, Rob, or my good friend Mike Long)come over hear and tear it up. I site fish, but I am not that good at it. Hell, I am not good at anything.
We must not forget Japans largest natural lake "Biwa", over 50 miles long, and 10 miles wide. Every year, tons of fish over ten, and dozens of teeners are caught. The record is just over seventeen.
Attached are a few of my pro staff's Biwa Bass.
