#1668, "Feeding baby bass"

I recently put two bass in a fish tank, and fed them five small goldfish which were gone the next morning. How often do you think I should feed these fish? They are only about 5 inches and do not swim around much so I would think that meal should last them maybe a week?
any comments would help.

I don't know the answer to your question but this topic came up awhile back and there were alot of responses. If you go to the freshwater board and go to page 6 in the archives, there was a discussion topic called"baby bass".

Hopefully this will help.

Yeah, if you guys don't mind, can we not talk about this any more? We ALL KNOW it's illegal to have pet bass. Discussing that on the forum is just going to bring out a bunch of conversation that we don't need to have. It's like posting about sneaking into illegal resevoirs. We ALL KNOW it's illegal, so don't talk about it the forum. There's always going to be someone up on their high horse that has to point it out that it's illegal and start a ruckus about it.

Have a look at the old thread about baby bass and let's leave it at that please.

At the right time of the year any aquarium store should be able to get them for you. They are only like $7.00 each, they are legal, they act like largemouths, they are a prettier fish, and you can have more than one of them in the tank without worrying about them killing or eating eachother (unless they are significantly different in size).

I have two babies right now and they are very cool. One is very active while the other is more of an ambush feeder. It's strange to see how different they are. I'm hoping it means one is male and one is female.

I have a 55 gallon show tank (longer and thinner than a normal tank). Hopefully it will be big enough or they will just grow to the size of the tank.

I mainly feed them goldfish but now wish I would've started with bloodworms or koi pellets. I've heard that once you "spoil" them with live fish it's nearly impossible to get them to eat dead stuff. The smaller one will eat the worms and fish but the larger one will only eat the fish.
