#2027, "Fish feel pain? how stupid is peta?"

http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/europe/04/30/fish.fear/index.html

How gay is peta ...i really think they are a bunch of freakin tree huggers

#1...wtf is the alternative to fishing? i would like peta to answer that for me
Dawn Carr, director of PETA (Europe),
"It's shocking that people will still go fishing for fun. We argue that for every cruel thing people do, there is a compassionate alternative."

#2 when does a bee ever sting a fish?

it would be different if they used hooks, but they are using $hit that does not happen naturally, there is a difference between bee venom and just plain hooks, that is a flaw in their test IMO

"A spokesman said: "These findings are in direct contrast to the recent work of Professor James D. Rose of the University of Wyoming, who stated in the Reviews of Fisheries Science that fish do not possess the necessary and specific regions of the brain -- the neocortex -- to enable them to feel pain or, indeed, fear."

Dr. Bruno Broughton, a fish biologist and scientific adviser to the NAA, added: "I doubt that it will come as much of a shock to anglers to learn that fish have sensory cells around their mouths. Nor is it a surprise that, when their lips are injected with poisons, fish respond and behave abnormally.

"However, it is an entirely different matter to draw conclusions about the ability of fish to feel pain, a psychological experience for which they -- literally -- do not have the brains." "

this site is annoying also "www.fishinghurts.com"

i understand treating animals nice and good...but damn...they take this #### to far, its like vegatarians that eat chicken or fish and still say they are vegatarians, let us fish and go hug ur trees petafags, and yes...im a little angry and tired of peta }( just a little

Duh the alternative is simple. By being very quiet and quick a fishermen can grab a fish and then lightly pull the fish to the boat, it takes alot of practice but im sure it can be done.....i can see a new era of fishing ahead!!

Save a wave, Ride a surfer.

The article also says that they injected some fish with saline...Those fish acted normally afterward, so it's not the penertration of the needle (or hook)...It could very well just be the annoying reaction to the swelling that a bee sting would produce

David C. Way to go. I'm glad to see you have the balls to say what we all think. I hope those PETA folks read Calfishing as well as our constituents in office. Maybe someday they will understand that fishermen as well as hunters are the reason our fisheries and wildlife programs are so successful. Take away fishing or hunting and PETA might as well shoot themselves in the foot. NO FISHERMEN NO MONEY.

The fishinghurts site is way beyond annoying.

Perhaps I should put down the poles and take up fish watching? An underwater camera and binocs and I'm set to go. I wonder what the MWD will say when I show up at Diamond Valley in scuba gear.
