Sitting here at school, I've suddenly got the urge to go catch some crayfish. Does anyone know some places where I might be able to find a good population of the critters? I'm thinking about buying a couple cheap traps, but if there are spots for rock turning that's just as good. I'm located in Claremont, but I'll drive a little ways.

what part of cali. do you live in? i live in bakersfield and i get crawdads all the time a trap is best or some times you can walk around in shallow water just after dark with a spot light and get them by hand.
or find a canal or river and set a chunk of chicken liver on the bank half under water or like a inch under the water then sit right next to it and wait every few min. use your flashlight to check on it. the craw dads will come up ad try to steal it so just scoop them up when you see them or get a net if you dont want to use your hands

I'm in Claremont, and I've heard about crawdads in Fullerton Creek and such.
I tried out a trap out there below Yorba Linda Blvd in a super-deep hole, but it only produced one craw for a night's work. My question is this: Where are all the craws in Fullerton?
Are they in the section running from Craig Park to Yorba Linda or are they in the section from Yorba Linda Blvd on? I'd really like to get into some before I leave for Singapore mid May.
I've got three nice traps that I made this weekend, and they're ready to roll, I just need a place to set em.

PS If anyone is interested in going with me, I'd be game for a weekend trip within the next four weeks.

dude, I fished fullerton creek for years. When there are torrential rains like we had, sometimes it takes the crawdads a while to get a foothold on what they had. So there may be some in there , but by late summer it will be crawling with them, I guarantee it. But I always got more crawdads downstream more, closer to acacia school and the park. There are some areas where they are much more concentrated than others. Do some leg work and you will find them. Good luck man.
