#1919, "October 13, SJ Ponds/Discovery Lake"

With 4 hours of sleep the night before and church in the morning AmishEd and I decided it would be smart to go fishing at 10PM. So, we headed over to Discovery Lake; a lake that Ed had never fished before. We were on a mission to see if there were bass in that lake. Ed threw worms and I threw a buzzbait off of this dock, but we weren't gettin any lovin. I switched to a worm and Ed threw a Zara Puppy. Ed gets blown up on and sets the hook on a nice fish. Turns out to be a freakin catfish. That's right, a catfish on topwater. About 2lbs. I believe Ed will be submitting an article on topwater fishing for catfish, so you can look forward to that. We eventually gave up on Discovery Lake and went to the SJ Ponds. I threw a buzzbait for nothing, and Ed got one keeper on a Zara Puppy. Having only brought one box, I left most of my topwater at Ed's house, so I borrowed a puppy and first cast got one (probably 2lbs or so) that immediately dug his nose into the weeds and shook out the hook. Worked around the lake and got a dink and a red ear. At 2AM we decided to call it a night. Cool little ponds though, I'd like to throw a Pop X in there... oh yes.

Funny thing is, I haven't caught or seen a cat in years. I hate them profusely. Steve keeps trying to get me to try it some time, but I just can't. But, if I keep getting 'em this way... It was a fun night because of it though. Next time I'll try for one on the wood.

I got about a 2 lb. channel catfish on a buzzbait in Washington D.C. I've caught a few on lures but only one on topwater. Weird.
