I'm thinking about buying a Shimano(Bantam Curado)6.2:1. But I'm
in between rods, what would be a good rod for this reel? I want
a setup that I can use for crankbaiting but not be afraid to tie
on another type of bait. Any suggestions on what type of line?
Thanks.

Ryan, good choice on the Curado, I would take the time to look at the Super Free version of the reel, for $20 more, it is well worth it, especially for light line applications, as far as a rod, a crankbait rod can crossover weel as far as versatility goes, usually a crankbait style taper/action on a rod, is extremely comprable, IMO, w a spinnerbait or topwater rod. I would suggest a 7 foot rod, w/ a medium/fast taper, and a medium/light action, as you move into baits that create more resistance, i.e----> big spinnerbaits, deep-diving cranks) a little more beef near the seat of the rod is applicable, hope this helps bro...

Got my crenkbait rod that i use for spinnerbaits and topwater at bww.its a seeker but i forgot the series. its like topwater/crankbait or something. its a glass rod and is 7 ft with a nice soft tip and good backbone. great rod for around 100 bucks. imo glass is a better choice for cranks. tried crankin with one of my imx's one time and the graphite is just way to stiff.hope this helps.

seasonaljunkie,
actually what you have is a composite rod, it is a graphite blank, w/fiberglass, which is what most rod company's do. Graphite is much lighter and more sensitive than glass, but more fragile. w/ scrim these days, rod manufactuers can get all the charachteristic's of a glass rod, in a graphite blank, check out the Loomis CBR series if you want the best there is for the $$$, I have a 845, and it is by far my favorite rod, and you cannot beat the 847 for deep stuff, just my 2 cents.

imo the crankbait series was to stiff for cranks. plus the seeker is cheaper than the loomis and has a lifetime garuntee

If your looking at the Curado, you definitely want to spend the extra$$$ for the super-free. I've got two and I love them!

As for the rod, my favorite is a St Croix Avid casting rod 6'2" Medium. They are $150 in the Cabelas catelog. I have numerous rods, but I find this one in my hand about 80% of the time. I bought it for wormin, but it has been a great crank rod. Can't say how it compares to the GLoomis, as I've never used a G, but I've been really happy with the St Croix.

watch those curados ive got 2 the smaller of them is the cu-100b and i has a sideplate that is broken in half from who knows what i went to go fishing picked up the rod to cast it and damn wouldnt reel the sideplate broken in half on the handle side and i still have to take it to sav-on tackle to get it fixed.they have good customer service so no problems there but if your looking for a more durable reel id look at something with some aluminum sideplates or at least something with some stronger plastic

just my 2 cents hope it helps

ps i have another one the larger model the # im not sure on but i like that one casts nice & easy takedown but it doesnt compare to my international 955 and im testing out an ambassador eon and so far that one is ok too

for the rod check out the shimano compre's there are pretty nice graphite rods for about $69-99 they have a bunch of differant actions and sizes ive got 3 of them in multiple actions and they fell nice while fishing them and on fish and you cant beat the fuji components they use!

I have both the Curado 6.2-1 and the Superfree and the Superfree is worth the extra $$$

I currently fish my Super free on a Phenix PX1 in Medium action. I fish topwater, cranks, Jigs (up to 5/8 oz), Worms... If you want an all around anything Rod I think that's a good choice. JMHO though

Glad to hear that you had better luck than I did with the EON. I got one for Christmas last year. I thought that one of the cool features would be the disengaging level wind. Mine did not disengage. When I took it apart, I found that the tab that disengaged it had been ground off. I'm thinking that someone on the assembly line didn't get the memo about the new tab on the lever connected to the thumbar, and they are grinding it off thinking it is a mold defect.I returned it and got another 200 super-free.

I'm not trying to bag on the EON. For all I know it could have been a return and the tab ground off by the previous purchaser. Just a "heads-up" to check the disengage before walking out the door with one.

I'll defintely be checking the Phenix at the BWW show.
