Treked on down to the beach south of the Pier yesterday for what I hoped would be some good Perchin' as I haven't wetted a line in quite a while due to alot of domestic spring cleaning projects.
I picked (IMO) the worst time to go ...10:00 a.m. because the tide was at slack around 12:30 p.m. At any rate, the water looked reletively clean and the surf was a modest 2-4 ft. with onshore winds about 8-10 knots.
Started casting micro grubs and on the third cast ...BAM! 15" Yellowfin Croaker. I was stoked believing I was in for a fun afternoon. Unfortunatly, that was all the action I had for the day and I stayed for about 2 hours plus change. Thats the bad news. :(
The good news is I've never seen sooo many sand crab beds. Crabs are everywhere! :D I didn't bring a SCT with me I just dug up a few with my hands and get this... every single one of them had orange roe in them. I baited a few but had no luck. An incoming tide would have produced I'm almost positive.
It looks like the evenings of fires in the rings and surf fishing the warm summer weekend evenings are going to return this summer for this fishin idiot!:-)

dont take me wrong, but to an extent, it is reassuring to know that even some of the best out there scratch.
for me out of 5 trips 2-3 i get skunked. some times all five trips i get skunked. still good to be out in the water and all, but lets be honest we go out to catch fish, when we dont it can be down right demoralizing. knowing that it happens to everyone else makes me feel more at eaase, even if it happens to me a lot more often x(
