Been looking at the fishing reports for this weekend and was totally blown away by the number of giant squid caught up and down the SoCal coast! We're talking thousands and thousands of squid. When did this "bite" start? I've been fishing locally for years (SB/VC counties) and have never heard of giant squid being caught in local waters in these numbers. Does anyone know the significance of this event? Something strange is going on out there. Sounds cliche, but, is this evidence of an El Nino event happening? What's next?

They only show up every 2-5 years or so. They ride the warm water current up in an El Niño (like that tildé?). There was a long lull between this current bite and the one earlier--the one a month ago. Maybe we'll see more red crabs--they showed before the squid.
