The 4 of us ("bwilson", "samiclaus", alex--sam's 8 yr. old son, and myself) fished Aliso from 7 to 915 AM. The light crowd was nice as it meant more fish to go around. Well, the corbina didn't show but we downed half a dozen donuts and one airpot of Starbucks and had good action on the 2-inch grubs carolina rigged on 6# line. Count was 6 yellowfin croaker (12-15 inchers), 22 perch (barred surf and walleyed mix--a few up BSPs to 10 inches) and the cutest 12-inch baby leopard shark, all C and R'd. Fished some blood worms too but the motoroil grubs got bit best. Was overcast and surf was 2-3 feet with long lulls. Only 5-6 other folks fishing scattered up and down beach.

Hey Fongster-

Sounds like a nice beach. Where do you park? how far a walk is it from car to water? And most important, how does it look to you for launching a kick-boat?

There is a large pay lot at the beach park--just pay for as much time as you want--like a meter that spits out a ticket for your dash. The walk is maybe 50-75 yds. from the lot, 150+ if parked on PCH. For kick boat or float tube launching it can be hairy--it's where I got flipped in mine two months ago and it was a small day. The shore break can be nasty. I have successfully launched there in the past, I guess I was due. Most of aliso is pretty exposed to swell except the far north end which is a 1/2 mile walk--a south swell will go into there as well though. For KB or FT outings you might want to try one of laguna's coves instead as they are more sheilded. Each one is different depending on season/sand coverage and swell direction.

BTW, I think you wear waders for your harbor outings, not sure...anyway, if you didn't know this already, NEVER where them in open water like a surf beach. You are asking for trouble. Only wear a wetsuit or just trunks as waders can fill if a wave crashs on you or you get flipped.
