Parked at 25th street and fished the beach from 6:45 a.m.- 9:30 a.m. Started throwing 2" Motor oil grubs on a 1/2 oz. sliding sinker rig. Kept on getting little little hits so i decided to down size it to a 1 1/2" Clear/Red Flake. First cast, got the tail bit right off. Pinned on a 1 1/2" Motor Oil and got 2 BSP in a row. Caught 5 fish total. All BSP and all around 6" inches. Had 3 fish brought all the way up to the beach when it came unbuttoned!
The exciting part was when the birds were crashing about 40ft. off the beach to my right. Pelicans and gulls and even saw some porpoise working it. Flash couple of pictures and I immediately ran there, switched to a 3" Big Hammer and kept working it but had no luck. I should've tied on a Kroc! Damn!:7 Didn't see any bait boils or anything... what do you think it could've been?

Here are the pictures.

Hey Gimme, looks like you had much better luck than I did.
I hit the surf in Hermosa on Saturday morning (3/20). This was my first time fishing the surf this year. I fished 28th st area from about 6:00am to 8:00am. Waves were small, tide on the rise, overcast skies, conditions looked favorable. Doesn't matter, I still got skunked. Nothing. I was throwing motor oil grubs w/red flakes (1 3/4 and 2"). Also threw 3" Big Hammer swimbaits for nothing. My fishermans excuse is that the water was to clear.

Anyways, highlight of the morning was seeing a whale (gray, I think, I'm no marine biologist) in close to shore. Maybe about 50 yds out. It was definately a juvenile.I don't know what it was doing in so close, but what a sight to see.

Also, there were other guys fishing the surf in Hermosa that morning, if you are reading this, how did you guys do?

Kman
