#14293, "Rodeo Jetty jam"

I arranged to have Wednesday off this week. I had planned to have a quiet and peaceful solo trip to the PL kelp forest, where I was supposed to perform a 14 hour bass fishing marathon and mourn the loss of two loved ones who died recently. Mother nature had other plans….

I launched into an early morning wind storm. I stopped right outside of the ramp to prepare my gear and while doing so, I caught this guy on my first cast.

On my second cast with same pole, I hooked up again and it was big and then it broke off. That’s what you get when you use a 2 week old knot, even if it was 20lb test. Did I mention I was in the process of preparing my gear? I hadn’t done that rod yet.

Conditions were terrible, mad chop and big Hawii 50 waves, but I tried to go outside anyway. I ended up breaking my boat where the trolling motor mounts from all the slamming and getting all wet before I finally turned around. I wasn’t into fighting the wind all day in the bay, so I just called the trip off. I fished for a couple hours to let the traffic subside. I fished the jetties as best I could from a bucking bronco, and actually caught quite a few fish.

The bite was pretty good if you could hold a position. Loose kelp was everywhere making things even tougher and heavy, weedless lures were the only option. I took a lot more pictures but, My camera sucks when the sky is backlit. Most of my shots are unusable. Please don’t post you condolences, that’s not my thing. Now get back to work, I don’t pay you for nothing!!
