Yakked the bay again today from around 5:00- 7:30.I caught one halibut 26.5 on the 5" fastrac. I Farmed another one that was easily legal and had one bite that didn't take. I was fishing right across from the boat launch. There's a steep beach about 200 yds long with eel grass running parallel to it (perfect).

Minnow type crankbait made by Rebel. Just cast and retrieve in the surf. If you do a search for fastrac on the boards, you'll find many many explanations of what it is and how to use it. -Brian

Here's a question for ya guys. Particulary someone who has caught alot of fish on the fastrac. Do they make a crome/silver paint to repaint those lures? It doesn't take very long for those teeth to take the paint off. I've caught 6 halibut on one fastrac and its mauled. Lucky I got more. I'm thinking of trying a hobby store. Any thoughts? -PHIL

I've used normal model paint to repaint lures before, and it's worked fine. If you want, you could try something new and repaint it in green sardine, or halloween or something like that, just for the fun of it and see what happens. -Brian

hey, nice halibut. I have been thinking about going up there and float tubing the estuary. What kind of tide is best, how hard is it to stay in one place in a tube and how bad is the current in and out of the bay? Anyone do any flyfishing there? my email is fsoos2001@yahoo.com, I live in solvang.

I was also thinking of taking one of my tubes in the bay, but right now i'm just sticking with the kayak. I don't think that current would be that much of a problem, as long as the tide wasn't in a big swing. Like going from a minus tide to a 5ft or vice versa, but even then it might not be that bad. IMO what I would do is take off around the boat launch and stay around there or head into the back bay. I've never really heard of anyone flyfishing in the salt around here. Are you going to go for halibut? If so try the fastracs they're freakin awesome!! -PHIL
