Went out of goleta beach @ 6:00 am in my kayak. HUGE schools of anchovies turning the water black. Dolphins, seals, birds in a feeding frenzy but fishing was slow. Trolled out to kelp just around the point. Right where two currents meet there there was a scum line and the water went from filthy to clear in a space of about 10 feet. I'm thinking how cool it looks when WHAM something hits my bait hard. White seabass. - about 25 inches. Not legal, but on light tackle it was insanly fun. Spent the next 5 hours working the edge of the kelp bed where the currents met and caught about 15 more whites - all but 1 was short, but i did get one that was 31 inches. Most were about 18 to 20 inches, but there were tons out there.

15 White Seabass with one legal from a kayak doesn't sound slow to me. Were you using bait or lures? What kind?

I was catching everything on worm king plastics - they were colored like herring - 4 and 5 inch ones with 1/2 and 1 ounce leadheads. Basically I was just drifting the edge of the beds bouncing them up and down. I probably saw half the fish I caught actually take the lures.

Thanks. The water was crystal clear Friday morning too. We saw a lot of our halibut strikes as well.
Pete
You can't catch tomorrow what you kill today - please practice catch and release.
