Stay home... is what ran through my head friday night as the wind blew the trees in my yard. But I had worked all week and was not going to give in. Started fishing Getty area/ SM canyon 70 to 80 feet @ 7am. Nothing. Moved in to 40 feet to give it a shot and BAM three legals in five minutes - one 28incher. Fished 40 to 50 until noon when wind forced me to leave. Ended up with 4 legals and 5 shorts. Kept one for dinner. For some reason the fish have moved shallow. Everything was on small deans. Broke something off I like to think was a big flatty, but fishing 6 pound he broke me at he leader and taught me a lesson. Which is my tip to you guys... if you're fishing a 4 or 5 ounce sinker with a swivel that slides over your line and your line is under 12 pound - re-tie after every trip. the swivel will wear and weaken the line about three inches from the knot and when you hook into a trophy, he'll break off. Fish hard!

Glad you got out and got some fish, Scott. The Butt Derby in Dana was cancelled today, hope it mellows out for tomorrow. Those butts are up shallow (or should be, who knows with the ocean looking like a blender!!) chasing the grunion that are spawning this weekend. The DP tourney may go tomorrow, as of 5:45 tonight they lowered the small craft warning flags, but I'm not betting the farm on tomorrow. Fishing the butts on 6 lb. with 4 oz. of weight, what type of setup are you fishing? That is some light line butt hunting! Glad somebody got out there, good job!
