#7162, "8/5 yellows/albacore"

Me and my dad went fishing on the Amigo out of Newport Landing. We got on the boat sunday to head out to try and catch some albacore. At the bait tank the pump died so we had to empty the tanks and fill them up again after they got the pump working. After a long nite we get out to the area we are going to fish and start trolling early. At about 9:30 we had 3 albacore on the boat and it was clear that they didnt want to play. The fact that most of out bait died on the way out didnt help either. So we headed out trying to find kelps. The first couple we came upon were dry so we kept looking. Then we found one that had some fish on it.These yellows were big and mean. After the first two stops i was 1 for 4 on fish landed to hooked up. I almost got spooled on 20 ( i was down to about 20 yards). So i decided the next the kelp i was throwing 30 on it. On 30 i went 2 for 2 with both fishing weighing around 20. We trolled a little bit more and got 2 more albacore and then it was time to go in. I ended up with 3 yellows ( 2 about 20 and one about 13) and my dad ended up with one 20 pound yellows and one 10 albacore. The yellows were not line shy they hit up on up to 40 so dont be afraid.

Nice YT. Everyone wants to talk about the homeys, but those paddy YT seem to pull WAY out of their weight class. Maybe they just know that kelp=safety & really REALLY want to get back in there! :D

Excellent picture, BTW.

Thanks guys. I really liked the way that pic came out also. It was a blast fighting those fish and just being out on the water. And I have to agree with fishslayer these yellows pulled really hard. Everytime i got one up to the boat i was like dang this thing isnt at least 30 pounds!!! Shark girl what are you going to do with 200 pounds of fish?!?! I thought i had to much with about 50 pounsd of filets.

Well, there are four of us, so I ended up with only like a quarter of that. My friend's gonna have a bbq at his house on Friday and feed about 20 people with most of it. I filleted mine the other night and I'm good for several bbqs. And I don't know anyone who doesn't like tuna, so most are gonna be given away. :) I'm goin out again in like three weeks so I gotta get rid of these anyway.

... one of those vacuum packers. I've eaten fish that was REALLY old that was vacuum packed. Very nice. I also vacuum pack & freeze my smoked albacore. It holds up pretty well that way.

Think ya could teach the CFO how to fillet albacore? :D

I figure if I wasn't gonna eat it soon, I shouldn't keep it. So I usually end up givin a lot away, and keepin what I'd eat for the next two or three weeks anyway. :P
