WENT OUT SUNDAY NIGHT FOR AN OVERNIGHTER ON THE CONDOR IN SAN DIEGO. (FISHERMAN'S LANDING) WE HAD A FULL BOAT, 39 ANGLERS ABOARD. WE GOT ABOUT 60 MILES OUT AND STARTED TROLLING AND FINALLY GOT BIT AROUND 6:30. IT WAS PRETTY GOOD AT FIRST WITH THE YELLOWTAIL, THEN SLOWED DOWN A LITTLE, THEN GOT BETTER AS THE MORNING PASSED. THE YELLOWTAIL BITE WAS AWESOME EARLY IN THE MORNING, I CAUGHT TWO, ONE AT ABOUT 15#, AND THE OTHER, TOO DINKY TO EVEN MENTION. THE ALBACORE STARTED HITTING AT AROUND 8 AND ONCE THAT STARTED, IT WAS ON! EVERYONE WAS USING CHOVIES AND SARDINES, A COUPLE OF MY FRIENDS WERE USING FISHTRAPS. MY BUDDY CAUGHT A NICE 25# OR SO WITH IT, SEEMS HE WAS THE ONLY ONE USING PLASTICS, AND WAS SUCCESSFUL. ANYWAY, I LANDED 3 ALBACORE, ALL WELL OVER 20#. BITE STOPPED FOR A WHILE, LIKE I SAID, SO WE KEPT TROLLING EVEN FURTHER AND FURTHER AWAY, WE ENDED UP ALMOST 100 MILES OFFSHORE. (90+)BY THE TIME WE HIT ANOTHER SPOT, IT WAS ALMOST TIME TO GO (WE HAD DONE SO MUCH TROLLING THAT WE WERE SO FAR OUT, WE NEEDED 9 HOURS TO GET BACK) SO WE STOPPED AT AROUND 12:30 OR SO. ALL IN ALL, IT WAS GOOD. FISH COUNT WAS 103 ALBACORE, 1 BLUEFIN, AND 20 YELLOWTAIL. I'M HAPPY WITH MY FIVE. THE FOUR OF US THAT WENT TOTALLED A GOOD 11 ALBACORE AND 6 YELLOWS. THAT'S ALMOST 20% OF THE FISH COUNT! WHICH BY THE WAY REMINDS ME, I FELT SORRY FOR THAT GUY WHO CAUGHT THAT BLUEFIN. IT WAS A GOOD 40#, PERFECT FOR THE JACKPOT, BUT HE HAD HOOKED IT A COUPLE SECONDS PAST THE ONE MINUTE WARNING SO THEY COULDN'T ACCEPT IT AS THE JACKPOT. BUMMER. A NICE FAT 30#+ YELLOWTAIL WON. ANYWAY, PICS ARE GOIN UP AS SOON AS THEY'RE DEVELOPED.

One minute warning? What's up with that? I've never heard of that before. Wonder if that 30# YT belonged to one of the deadheads....but I'm just s cynical busterd! :D Was the BFT caught on the troll? That would disallow it.

Sounds like ya had a good trip... way over the per rod average. That's ALWAYS nice!

40 anglers and only ONE using plastic?

As for the plastics thing, he was the only one I actually SAW using plastics, and I did see a couple using jigs. As for the one minute thing, it isn't actually a rule, we were just really late heading back so he said he gave us an extra minute (even after all the other extra 10 minute marks he gave us) So anyway, that's that.

I'm goin back out in like three weeks or so. I squeezed me out a free trip off one of the deckhands. :) Seems being the only girl on the boat pays off. LOL. (A personal tip at the very end helps too...) YT bite's gonna be awesome then. I just filleted two of my albacores last night and ended up with about 40 or 50 half inch thick 3 by 6 inch steaks. I never pay the deckhands to fillet cause i woulda ended up with half as much meat. Luck 2 you if you go Todd. Tip to you, go out of Fisherman's, they seem to have the best counts all summer. I'd go off the condor too, fastest, biggest, and lowest deck out of all of them. The low deck helps a lot, it's only about 5 feet above water.

Nice job on the albies shark girl. I just cooked up some fish last night that I caught recently. It worked out well so I want to share what I found. For albacore, try this:

Take 4-6 oz. albacore squares.

Take some margarine spread and spread it lightly on the fish.

Use garlic salt on fish to your liking.

Add a couple of drops of jabinero sauce to each side of each fish square and spread it around with a spoon. (I like spicy food)

Take some thinly sliced bacon (usually the cheap stuff from the supermarket.) Wrap one slice around each square. You can stretch the thin bacon so you can just about cover one whole square with one piece of bacon.

Lightly oil a skillet (preferably cast iron) and I mean hardly use any oil. Then, fry the bacon wrapped fish on each side for about 3 minutes. You can just about tell by looking at it when its done.

I served these chunks on a bed of wild grain rice and then smothered the fish in green beans!

Yum!

My favorite, marinate a day or so in a jar of salsa, Hui Hui Sauce, and garlic. Tip: use enough to fully submerge the fish.
