#2496, "Newbie"

hey guys,
i'm pretty new to chucking the trout plugs for bass. my sister and her b.f. picked up a rod and reel for me as an x-mas gift(i'm one lucky dude). the rod is an allstar rod, 7'6" rated for 15 - 40lb. test and Xheavy action. the reel is a abu garcia 6500. i already have some cool lures like 2 9" slammers, 2 pro-rigged 7" ospreys and a couple mission fish baits. i have yet to catch a fish nor have i ever witnessed a follow or boil. with the fred hall show approaching, i was interested in getting some new lures. i'm on a $75 budget and i would like to know what lures to get. i mainly fish perris and puddingstone, i sometimes go to casitas and castaic. i've checked out this forum quite a few times and i hear a lot about rago baits. i'd love a rago plug, but i might not be able to afford it (i hope to get some extra cash before the fed hall show). so, what lures would be worth my $75?

thanks - vince

You seem to be covered pretty well already. I'd pick up some generic swimbaits and if you can find one, a mission fish sidewinder. I know there will be plenty of generic swimbaits at fred hall, not sure about sidewinders.

You might want to try a pupfish. I got one a couple of weeks ago and it is a pretty fun lure to use. It would be a good choice for when your at Castaic.

Buy a 7 inch Osprey. It's the best swimbait out there. The Generic doesn't look bad but the Osprey is still the best.

Shimanokid,
I bought my pupfish at the tackle store right by the fire station in Castaic. I think the name of it is Lakeside but I am not sure. I also think Fish n fools might have them.
