#6534, "Corvalus for swimbaits?"

Since I'm looking for a reel that can match my first swimbait-dedicated rod, I've been looking into the Shimano Corvalus. I know everybody uses Calcuttas, Cardiffs & such but would this reel do? It has 3 bearings & a smooth drag, and the 301 model would probably cut it as a 20 lb. line reel. It balances well on a heavy model of rod, as I'm most likely to be throwing Hudds, Generic Trout, & the like. Any probelms or complaints about the reeel or has anyone tried them for the big wood?

The corvalus has been awesome to me so far as a swimbait reel. I've only used it about 15 days. But 15 days chucking trouts all day is alot and it's been flawless. Drag is smooth, and for the price, I will probably be buying another one. Hope this helps:-)

The corvalis is just the cardiff remade. I use a cardiff 301 and have had no problems at all. Its very smooth its not to big and will handle 25lb test.Plus the price is not to bad.I throw 9" castaics & 8 to 6 "optimum & trix with it with no problems.

Shimanos really have done a good job by upgrading the corsair to the corvalus this year,my 400 has been sweet for tossing the big wood. Matched with 25lb Trilene big game and an okuma Guide select XH swimbait rod and im set for a good price even.

Hey Joe C, the Corvalus is a new model reel not a Cardiff. They have a new Cardiff now too. It's the "A" model

i thought the corvalus was the worst shimano reel i have ever used. i had the 250 and i was therowing small swimbaits and it didnt performe at all for me, but i do like the cardiff 250 for small swimbaits.
